You’re the best Iztok. As a life long Mavs fan (40+ years) I wish that none of this ever happened, obviously. I thought we’d be reading your Mavs content for another decade.
Great stuff. I can’t even imagine the emotions this will bring for Luka! Sometimes I get caught up in my own disgust for this management and forget how hard this is for him.
I hope he gets some closure—whatever that looks like for him!
Thanks Terry. And to me a big part of this story was how honest, how open Luka was about how hard the trade was for him. We often think of these superstars as super heroes but they are human, emotional like everyone else.
Great piece Iztok. I was at the game last night and it’s hard to describe how weird it was. It’s crazy that 6 years prior on the same night we shed tears for a different reason as we celebrated Dirk’s career in his last home game. How different things are now. I cheered every time Luka touched the ball and felt nothing when the Mavs did anything and yelled “Fire Nico” along with everyone else the entire night. While I’ll never get over the trade, I got a little closure and expressed my gratitude to Luka at the last Mavs game I’ll attend for I don’t know how long.
Awesome that you were there Brandon. Despite the sadness, I think it's a game you explain or talk about with friends for years. And I remember that Dirk game....also so emotional, but full of different emotions.
Hi Iztok - As you always do, you captured just what it felt like to be a Mavs fan over these last few years … and the joy and memorable moments from last season still are so strong. It truly did feel like something special was being built and the moments in the AAC, feeling the energy of the crowd, the chemistry of the players and watching Luka magic made each game an experience. Yes, we also always wanted to win, but the joy of being there to just maybe see something that hasn’t been done before was bigger than just about winning.

Hey Michael! Thanks and really appreciate your support. And I thought the same...

Thanks again for all the great stuff you write!

I can’t watch it. Just can’t.
I really cant blame you. I talk to so many fans, and everyone processing this differently.

Thanks Brian, appreciate the support as always! Last year, that team was special.
